Tennessee Renaissance Fair

We had such a good day! We went to the Tennessee Renaissance Fair. There was so much to see and do! There were some clothes that I thought about getting (and next time might not be able to control myself), jewelry, and a lot of various things (like purses, candles, accessories, etc.) that were handmade and fun to look at.
This weekend is the International Jousting Tournament. It was so exciting! I have never been to a Renaissance Fair much less a jousting tournament! I was like a child I was so excited about watching. Our "cheerleader" for the even explained jousting for those who did not know what it was. She said jousting is where "big knights get on big horses and hit each other with big sticks." I thought that was so funny. Just a few pictures from today's adventure.

A fairy sitting in the middle of the fair. There were a few of these set up where they interacted with visitors. They also at some point were blowing bubbles, and dancing around.

Some more of the workers interacting with the guests.

Here were some of the knights as they were being introduced  before the tournament.

The only knight in this part of the tournament to be knocked off of his horse. He walked off the field, but with a limp. He also declined the opportunity to remount his horse and go again.

Some more of the tournament. I actually took a LOT of pictures of the tournament. It was my first time to watch jousting and it was SO much fun.

 The "Queen."

Again, I took a ton of pictures of the event.

Here were the knights at the end of the event. They were getting ready to read out the scores.

Here they are lining up in order of their placement.

I had so much fun. I know this is going to sound VERY crazy, but I want to make Renaissance wear for next year, so Dave and I can dress up and be one of the "crazy people." But, I think it will be SO much fun! I don't know if you can tell but I LOVED the Renaissance Fair! It was the first one I have been to. Since we are hoping to have a baby by next year I will have to make something for the baby too... Which I think will be so cute! So many ideas for next year.

  1. Looks like it was a barrel of fun! I'm genuinely amazed that they actually set up jousting, although it was clearly worth it. Can't wait to read about what you cook up for a baby at a Ren fair.

Actually, my wife and I are looking forward to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans in 2015 - our little daughter will be just old enough for us to let them hang out with the re-enactors that my wife knows, dressed up as officers' children (presumably, one in General Jackson's camp and one in General Pakenham's camp, but that's another story).

I should add that the TN Renaissance Fair clearly stacks up better than this Colonial Village event - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Z87sfzq0A !
